Time & Talent

Stewardship consists of three distinct, equal components: time, talent, and treasure. The gift of time recognizes and celebrates the wonderful gift of life. The gift of talent recognizes all physical and mental abilities with which the Lord has blessed us. The gift of treasure includes all financial resources we earn by using our time and talents. While tithing is one method for financial giving, we ask each parishioner to put God first, trust in God, and give sacrificially.

Time & Talent Survey

Time & Talent

The life of stewardship recognizes each parishioner and their unique gifts as strengthening our relationship with God, and at the same time, influencing the larger parish and world community. Our Time & Talent inventory helps each parishioner to identify and share their unique gifts not only at St. Sebastian, but with the many others that our individual and collective circles touch. Each year the Time & Talent Survey offers parishioners an opportunity to begin or renew their stewardship commitment.

The Time & Talent Team weaves together pieces to provide support for both ministries and the committees that serve them, and offer information opportunities for new members. In other words, the Time and Talent Network helps those who wish to share their gifts with those who need them. A computer system keeps track of every parish member. The challenge for the committee is to define parish opportunities, streamline the registration process, and channel members’ time and talent intentions.

Stewardship Committee

This committee defines a systematic way of infusing the theology and practice of stewardship into the life of the parish, identifying opportunities for members of the parish to share their time, talent, and financial resources, and establishes an ongoing process to recruit, recognize and thank volunteers in all parish ministries.

New Parishioner Committee

  • Information Sunday: The New Parishioner Welcome Committee greets and registers new parish members on the first Sunday of each month.
  • Stewardship Sunday: Visit our booths of information about the many committees and volunteer opportunities at both the school and parish. Usually late January or February.
  • New Parishioner Pot Luck is held quarterly to welcome new parishioners and acquaint them with our vibrant and active parish and parishioners.

Lay Leadership Seminar

Now more than ever, the Catholic Church needs passionate lay leaders who can effectively work with the growing number of people who seek participation within their faith community – to reinforce the sense of belonging. Each time a parishioner steps forward to lead, chair, or coordinate a vision, they bring with them their own leadership gifts. Working in a volunteer environment can be fabulously rewarding and at the same time a tremendous challenge. Workshop held quarterly.

Prayer & Worship Committee

The Prayer & Worship Committee coordinates the practice of and activities related to celebrating the mysteries of our faith in communal worship. Members provide overall direction to the spiritual and liturgical life of the parish. Liturgical principles of the Second Vatican Council as well as archdiocesan policies are implemented. This committee oversees the liturgical ministries and coordinates the celebration of the liturgical calendar.

The life of stewardship is an ongoing process of integration whereby we relate our whole person to the whole action of God - creating, redeeming and empowering…by acknowledging our dependence upon God for all life, we are called to regard both material things and human capacities not as private possessions or as the property of limited groups, but as “God’s.”
