Students are welcomed into the parish school community on the basis of the following:
The principal or pastor judges the interest and motivation of the family to be in accord with the highest order of Catholic education.
- A copy of the most recent report card must be provided in order to assess student academic levels and provide proper placement.
- A student birth certificate is required for proof of age.
- All appropriate paperwork must be filled out as directed by the school office.
- School program fees must be paid. These include registration, playground, Home & School dues and any others as indicated.
- Financial commitment must be on record in the parish office. For St. Sebastian parish members, this consists of a 5% of family income tithe in the form of a pledge card. For non-parishioners, a choice between the above mentioned tithe or a cost-of-education payment is offered. The actual cost of education is $1,850 for half day K4 - K5 and $3,700 for full-day K5 – grade 8. The payments for this financial commitment must be current and on schedule. (See School Finances for further details.)
- Admission testing or day-long student visits may be used to assess the child’s potential for academic success.
All students are on probation during their first year of attendance at St. Sebastian School. During this probationary period, St. Sebastian will determine whether or not we can meet the needs of the student. The decision of the principal is final.
During the admission process, the following priority system will be utilized:
During the first and second week of the registration period (typically, the two weeks following the Open House in late January), applications will be accepted only from currently enrolled students.
During the third and fourth week of the registration period, applications will continue to be accepted from current students, as well as for all new students from the community at large. At the close of the second two weeks of the registration period, applications for the school will be prioritized for admission based on the following:
- Currently enrolled students
- Siblings of parish families with students enrolled during the priority period
- Children of parish families
- Siblings of non-parish families enrolled during the priority period for currently enrolled students
- Children of other Catholic parishes
- All other applicants based on the date the application was received
In the event a grade level meets the stated enrollment maximum, a waiting list will be created. Children on the waiting list will be prioritized for admission using the same priorities listed above.
