Book Fair

St. Sebastian School hosts two book fairs per year that are held in the school library.  The book fairs raise money for new books for the library, known as the Georginne Worman Library.  Mrs. Worman was the librarian for 26 years, from the beginning in 1968 to May, 1994.  She did an incredible job providing the little resources available to make it a positive experience for the students at St. Sebastian.

In the fall, during the week of parent-teacher conference days, we host a fair in conjunction with Rainbow Booksellers on Vliet Street.  Parents are the energy behind these activities.  They volunteer for set-up, monitoring in the library during the book fair, and take down.  This fair, held in November, is usually for 4 days, from Monday through Thursday night.  A parent works with the librarian to make all the arrangements for this event.  A percentage of total sales are given to the school by purchasing new books from Rainbow Booksellers.  Some parents also choose to buy books outright and donate them to the school.

In the spring, Scholastic Books Co. supplies the materials to entice the children and their families to make another donation to the library by purchasing books.  Scholastic is a very large company responsible for publishing many books for children and schools.  In both cases, we do take books right from the two companies to supply our library.  We have also had a cash return made so that we could purchase books from other suppliers.  The parent volunteers work with the librarian to make the most of these opportunities.

Our goal is to keep the library as up-to-date as possible.  The benefits for the children are enormous!

All proceeds from the Book Fairs go to benefit the St. Sebastian School library.
